Jul 31, 2011 · You should be setting the parking brake after you've put the car in park, but before you take your foot off the brake. That takes all the pressure off of the transmission. That clunk is not a good thing. I don't remember what part causes it, but it indicates the transmission being under load when it shouldn't be.

- It's really not that sort of noise too (nor is it the sort of noise you get from the chain catching a cage or the indexing being out). It really is just like riding an under-lubed or worn out chain; basically the normal sound of a chain riding over sprockets.. just louder than would be expected.

Close the hood and see if when you tap the noise is gone... Also under the hood there's 2 10 mil bolts on each side that hold the fenders.. Try tightening those also.

Many checked the suspension and could not find the source. Someone mentioned checking the rubber stops on the hood. I backed mine out about 2 turns and that took care of the problem.
